WASTE collectors across Thurrock are due to go on strike from this Thursday.
Thurrock Council has received notice of industrial action from the Unite union which has balloted members to take industrial action.
The action will start on Thursday and will affect the waste collection service as follows:
Working to rule – Thursday, September 18
Two hour stoppage starting at 7am on Friday, September 19
Working to rule – Monday, September 22
This may result in some disruption to all three collection services.
Based on the information the council has received, it is proposing to suspend the kitchen and garden waste service for a week from Friday, September 19 to Thursday, September 25 so it can focus on the residual and recycling bin collections.
This decision and the industrial action are subject to change due to negotiations continuing.
Residents are asked to check the waste section of the council’s website daily for further updates as they happen.
