TWO people were arrested following a complex investigation into an alleged £370,000 social care fraud which targeted four local authorities.

Thurrock Council led the operation - which also involved officers from the Metropolitan Police, Essex Police and Lancashire Police, along with staff from Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Blackpool councils.

The fraud relates to an attack on the social care system at Thurrock Council, the London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, and Redbridge as well as Blackpool Council where false representations were allegedly made.

In addition to the social care fraud the representations made to the DWP are also suspected to be false.

Following detailed and extensive enquiries, a 47-year-old woman and 55-year-old man were arrested at an address in Blackpool, Lancashire.

The couple’s other properties in London and Essex were also searched.

The pair - a 47-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man - were interviewed concerning the offences and were released pending further enquiries.
