THE RSPCA is appealing for information about a cat found dumped at the base of a tree in woods by Cherwell Grove, South Ockendon, Essex last Tuesday, April 14.

A white male with a bald head was seen walking into the woods around 11.30am with the male, tabby in a cat carrier, then walking away again with the empty carrier.

Then the cat, thought to be around a year old, was found just abandoned by the tree. He was taken straight to a vet who found there was some soft tissue trauma to the base of the animal's spine. The cat is still receiving veterinary care, but it is hoped that he will soon be available for rehoming.

RSPCA inspector Adam Jones said: "We don't know for sure how the cat was injured - but it seems very possible he was kicked or similar - an unacceptable way to treat an animal.

"We urge anyone with any information about this animal and how he came to be treated in this way and then dumped in pain and with no care in the woods to let us know on 0300 123 8018."
