Grays-born comic Russell Brand has conducted a clandestine interview with Labour leader Ed Miliband for his YouTube channel Trews.
The Labour leader was spotted leaving Brand's London home last night, reported a national newspaper.
The interview by wannabe Prime Minister Ed has sparked a lively debate on Twitter.
Comic and writer Brand, who previously hit the headlines for urging people not to vote on Newsnight, runs an alternative news show 'The Trews', which is watched by hundreds of thousands of people each week.
Some commentators were surprised by the visit given the recent spat between Brand and Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls.
But, an aide of Mr Miliband told a national newspaper: “We believe people must engage in politics and want people to engage in politics.
“Politics is too important to be left to politicians and all people in this country, both young and old, should get involved and vote. The job of politicians is to convince people to take part.”
Opinions on Twitter were divided.
User Rufus Hound writing under handle @RufusHound tweeted: "@rustyrockets may be a divisive figure, but he has a bigger audience than The Sun. Cam's notion that Miliband shouldn't court it is idiotic."
User Andrew Pierce writing under handle @toryboypierce tweeted: "Red Ed paying homage at midnight to a sleaze bag like Russell Brand. Is that the conduct of a Prime Minister in waiting?"
Meanwhile the comic himself tweeted from his handle @rustyrockets: "Don't be jealous Dave - I'll run into you at West Ham - when you're not busy with "ordinary people"."
