FIREFIGHTERS from across Essex were called in to tackle a huge blaze.
Eight fire crews raced to London Road, Purfleet, just before 6pm after a large amount of rubbish caught light.
Two rubbish piles were well alight measuring about 20 metres by 20 metres and the fire spread to another large pile of rubbish measuring approximately 20 x 40 metres.
Basildon's incident command unit was drafted in to co-ordinate the fight as was a Pinzgauer all-terrain 4WD vehicle from Billericay station.
