Police are appealing for help after a man was violently attacked and beaten with a metal pole by five men while walking home from Lakeside.

The violent attack, which left the 22-year-old victim unconscious and bleeding on the street, also robbed him of his phone and cash.

The victim next remembered waking up on Grays High Street where paramedics were treating him for facial injuries. One of his trainers also went missing in the incident.

The attack happened on May 13 between 8pm and 9pm as the man was walking home from Lakeside shopping centre on Wharf Road.

The victim recalled being followed by three men down London Road, before they were joined by two more on Wharf Road and jumped him with a metal pole and knuckle duster as he turned onto the bridge.

Police in Grays are appealing for witnesses to the robbery.
