Volunteers’ Week is coming to Thurrock and will celebrate the contribution of those who give up their time to help others.

June 1-7 will highlight the work many charities, organizations and individuals undertake, whether that be clearing out a local park or helping with a reading club or food bank.

During the week there will be events happening at Belhus Library in South Ockendon Centre on Tuesday, June 2, between 9.30am and 12pm; Acorns Community Hub at Headon hall, Stifford Clays on Wednesday, June 3 from 10am-12pm and Chadwell Library on Thursday, June 5, from 10am-12.30pm.

Laura Hudson, volunteer coordinator for Volunteer Centre Thurrock, said: “It is important that local organisations and groups who use volunteers recognise the valuable contribution they are making and ensure they say a big thank you to them. They could award their volunteers with certificates, buy lunch or even take their volunteers out”.

Everyone is invited to join in this national celebration of volunteers and volunteering, and volunteers are being encouraged to share their own stories and motivations on social media using the hashtag #ivolunteer.
