OPERA fans can enjoy a free screening of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at High House Production Park, in Purfleet, in July.

A live performance of the work, taking place at the Royal Opera House, in Covent Garden, will be shown on a giant screen outdoors – and it’s free to all comers.

A festival atmosphere is expected as those with a passion for a big voice and a big costume – as well as those new to the whole thing – can just turn up and enjoy one of opera’s most popular works.

Kasper Holten’s production stars Christopher Maltman and has been praised by reviewers for its technical wizardry and innovative use of video – as well as being “exceptionally well sung”.

The opera tells the story of the impulsive and charismatic Don Giovanni, who travels through Europe seducing women, accompanied by his long-suffering servant Leporello.

But when Don Giovanni commits murder, he unleashes a dark power beyond his control.

To enjoy the sunset at the same time as one of opera’s most haunting works, just bring a bottle of your favourite wine and a blanket.

With activities including stalls in the orchard and a workshop to make a mask to wear during the night, the pre-performance programme begins at 6.30pm in the grounds of the High House Production Park.

The opera is on Friday, July 3, as one of the BP Big Screen events. No need to book – just turn up.
