A planning committee meeting at Thurrock Council tonight decided a number of applications in the borough. Here, we bring you a brief round-up of what happened.

An application for the demolition of a fire damaged building and the construction of two new replacement buildings at Wick Place Industrial Estate, Bulphan, was deferred until the next planning committee.

Committee members originally voted against the proposals for its use of green belt, but it was then decided the application should come back to committee with more information for fear that granting this application would lead to further applications on the site.

Eighteen new homes in Stanford-le-Hope were given the go ahead despite members of the public in the chamber vocally against the proposal. The application will see the destruction of Hillview, 263 Branksome Avenue, and the 18 dwellings constructed.

A waste management and recycling facility was refused by members in Chadwell St Mary.

The application was for the Rekola Recycling site in the Star Industrial Estate on Linford Road.

Objections included the current of dust from the site and noise heard all day.

A proposal for six apartments on land opposite to Prospects Place in Grays was also rejected. The application was point blank refused by members after hearing from resident Sue Hughes and ward councillor John Kent on issues including parking on an already tight road.

Seven new homes were given the green light in South Ockendon on land to the rear of South Road.

The application will see the garage of 146 South Road demolished to make way for the houses.

In the final application of the night, Somers Heath Primary School in South Ockendon was given permission for the provision of a double re-locatable modular classroom and a single modular nursery for a temporary period of 18 months.
