PURFLEET pop-punk darlings Such Strange Arts have bagged their first record deal.

The South Essex College foursome have been snapped up by USA-based label Standby Records.

The young rockers said the forthcoming launch of their new EP ‘Waking the Neighbours’ on January 29, followed by a UK-wide tour starting on February 17 was a dream come true.

Describing themselves as “a high-energy pop-rock/ pop-punk band with a wide range of influences from pop to metal”, the group’s rise to stardom was launched last year when they supported Scouting for Girls at the college’s Thurrock Campus launch.

They have been sporting the current line-up since 2013.

Guitarist Matt Milton, who is in the final year of his BA music production degree at the college’s Southend and Purfleet centres, said: “Studying locally has been a great help in getting the band to where it is now and we learned a lot about songwriting and production on our course.

“We can’t wait to start the band’s next chapter now.”

Singer Jake Williamson completed his BTEC Level 3 music performance at the college last year and bassist Dean Bonning completed his BTEC Level 3 sports and exercise science course this year.

Drummer Antony Yates completes the quartet.

An EP release show and a release party, both taking place in Southend, will be announced in the coming weeks.
