PARENTS are calling for road safety measures outside a school after a little girl was hit by a bus, during home-time.

The incident, which thankfully left the child with only a minor leg injury, happened outside Tudor Court School, in Bark Burr Road, on Thursday at 3.20pm.

It has prompted Thurrock Council to carry out a full investigation into what road safety measures can be carried out.

Bridget Idowu, 45, who lives in Camden Road, Chafford Hundred and has four children at the school, said she is “worried sick” someone will be killed.

Mrs Idowu, whose 6-year-old daughter witnessed the accident, also called for a lollipop lady, or zebra crossing.

She said: “I have spoken to many other parents who are worried.

“Children are so vulnerable, the school and council needs to be sensitive to children.

“I’m worried sick that someone will get killed.

“I pray there is going to be a zebra crossing built, or a lollipop lady hired.”

An East of England Ambulance spokesman said a first response vehicle and ambulance were sent to the scene, and treated her for minor injuries.

A school spokesman said: “Yesterday (Thursday 27 May) at 3.30pm, a young pupil was unfortunately involved in an incident outside of Tudor Court School.

“The young girl is receiving medical support but her condition is not considered life changing. The whole school community wishes her a very speedy recovery.

“This is a sharp reminder to us all about considerate parking and driving near to our, or any, school.

“Mr Kyriacou will be writing to all Tudor Court parents with more information after half term.”

A Thurrock council spokesman said: “Thurrock Council is aware of an unfortunate incident that took place outside Tudor Court School in Chafford Hundred yesterday afternoon.”

“The council takes these incidences very seriously and a full review and assessment will take place after half term next week.”
