A THURROCK woman raised more than £800 for a children’s charity by completing a marathon trek through the Peak District.

Kerry Stride, 31, of Harrisons Wharf, Purfleet, took part in the 26.2 mile challenge earlier this month in aid of Together for Short Lives, which runs children’s hospices across the UK, including Richard’s House in Beckton.

The Power Peaks challenge tested the mind, body and spirit, as it also included brain power and creativity tests along the way.

The route included reaching the 2,087ft summit of Kinder Scout and climbing the 1,696ft to the top of Mam Tor.

Kerry was joined by 30 of her colleagues from recruitment firm Hays for the trek after the company chose Together for Short Lives as its charity partner for 2015 to 2017.

She said: “It was a huge challenge, harder than I expected, but everyone in the team did really well. I feel proud to have raised money for Together for Short Lives, an incredible and worth while charity.

“Hays’ aim is to fund 6,000 hours of care by raising £120,000 as part of our charity partnership and I am thrilled to play a part towards achieving this target.”

Nick Appleby, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Together for Short Lives, said: “We are delighted with the commitment Kerry and the team from Hays have shown to the charity by completing the Power Peaks challenge.

“Their support will help us raise much needed funds for thousands of seriously ill children and their families.”
