Hampton & Richmond Borough 2-1 East Thurrock United
Ryman Premier
From the Beveree Stadium
EAST Thurrock United lost their third away match of the season at a spirited Hampton & Richmond Borough desperate for points.
The hosts have endured a torrid start to the campaign, having conceded 27 goals in 10 games before today, but they showed great mettle to take all three points from John Coventry’s Rocks.
East Thurrock came into this match off the back of a marathon FA Cup tie in midweek, which they triumphed in on penalties, but were slow starters in this game.
Neither side were creating much before the first goal came. It was Billy Jeffreys who gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes before the interval after a freekick wasn’t cleared, despite loud calls for offside, and that was how it stayed until the half-time whistle.
If fell to centre-back Simon Peddie to level the scores, equalising with a header from a set-piece but, not to be denied, Hampton & Richmond Borough hit back and scored a winner with 70 minutes played – Charlie Moone the man to provide the winning goal after some good work from Jerome Federico.
East Thurrock United are back in action at Witham Town tomorrow.
“We should have won it but we were to blame for their second goal," said Coventry. "We need to get over this one and make sure we get the win we deserved on Saturday against Witham tomorrow.”
East Thurrock United: Hughes, Sammons, Stephen, Peddie, Wood, Parmenter, Osei (Gilbey), Symons, Bryant (Anderson), Higgins, Harris
