THURROCK’S ladies first team were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Redbridge & Ilford in 2SE.

Home side Thurrock drew first blood when Tessa Ing collected a fine ball from Louise Parrott and slotted home.

The hosts continued to press forward but were undone on the counter attack as Redbridge equalised.

Thurrock keeper Alison Hadley then found herself having to make some excellent saves to keep the game level at half time.

Newcomer Lauren Marshall got on the scoresheet in the second half but two goals from the visitors left Thurrock staring at defeat.

But with a minute left, Natalie Beardwell made a solid interception and attacked with support from Jo Taylor who put the ball in the bottom left-hand corner of the goal from the top of the D.

* The ladies’ second team beat Brentwood III by a solitary goal scored by Charlene Curtis.

In a superb team performance Niki Woodruff, playing right back, just edged the player of the match award.

* The third team also faced Brentwood and were beaten 3-2 in an end-to-end game.

Player-of-the-match Katie Lawrence equalised an early strike from Brentwood before Thurrock fell 3-1 behind.

Jo Diss scored a well-worked goal 12 minutes from time to make it 3-2 but they could not find a way back.

* Thurrock’s men’s first team lost 3-0 to a strong Southend side.

Paul Mailey’s goal proved the difference for the men’s second team in their trip to bottom-of-the-table Upminster in division seven south east.

Mailey converted from an acute angle in the second half to settle a tight game.
