TILBURY lost for the first time in five games at Chadfields, but they gave high-flying Harlow a run for their money.

The Dockers made two new signings in the lead up to the game to bolster their forward line with former East Thurrock United striker Neil Richmond signing from Heybridge Swifts and Tony Martin from Maldon & Tiptree.

Richmond went straight into the starting line-up and it was his new strike partner Harry Cook who had the first chance, firing wide early on.

The visitors went in front in the 24th minute when Layne Eadie fired home a cracking shot from 20 yards.

But the hosts were back on level terms five minutes before the interval.

A corner from Tom Wood found its way to Rimmel Daniel who looped his effort left-footed into the net.

This gave Tilbury confidence and straight after the restart, they took the lead. A cross from the right by Bradley Webb found Tom Wood just inside the box who swivelled and turned and struck low into the net.

The game lacked any flow for a short period until Junior Appiah ran into the Tilbury penalty box just past the hour mark and was brought down, giving the referee no choice but to award a penalty and former Docker Alex Read made no mistake from the spot.

Harlow grabbed the winner on 13 minutes when a David Cowley corner was headed home unmarked by Sam Holloway.

In the final minute debutants, Richmond and Martin – who had come on for Wood – both had chances to equalise but couldn’t convert as Harlow left with the points.

Tilbury boss Gary Henty said: “I am disappointed with the result after the team worked so hard and to come away with nothing is a blow to us.”
