THURROCK men’s first team were pegged back to draw 2-2 at home with Waltham Forest II in Eastern League Division Three South East.

The hosts started brightly and broke the deadlock when T’s won the ball back deep in their opponent’s half and moved the ball forward quickly to Jeff West who finished with aplomb.

Thurrock then soaked up pressure from a number of Waltham Forest attacks and short corners before they extended their lead when a sideline hit was taken quickly between Micheal Murray and J West and worked into Ashley Snell who deflected to ball into the goal.

Waltham Forest then halved the deficit just before half time on the counter attack.

The visitors started the second half brightly but could not equalise before Thurrock wasted chances to put the game to bed.

And they were made to pay when Forest scored on the counter attack to earn a draw.

The ladies first team were at home for the first time in six games.

They hosted Bexleyheath & Belvedere Hockey Club in Eastern League Division Two South East and emerged 4-1 winners.

Captain Gemma White opened the scoring before Natalie Beardwell played in Meera Sudd who made it 2-0.

Lou Parrott then stepped up to score in the bottom corner from a straight strike. BBHC got a goal back but Debra Blamey rounded off the scoring with a close-range effort.

The ladies second team lost 4-0 to East London III.

Player of the match was captain Laura Fishleigh who filled in in goal.

The ladies third team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Maldon.

Despite the best efforts of keeper Eira Booth, Maldon took the lead.

The work rate of Fay Tuffee and player-of-the-match Katie Lawrence ensured T’s stayed in contention and came so close to levelling things up when a wonderful move between Lawrence and Charlotte Adnams almost earned them a goal.

The men’s second team were held 1-1 by Romford’s second string.

The two near neighbours again produced an entertaining game in which T’s went ahead courtesy of Olu Akinwande’s penalty corner strike.

Romford equalised, also from a penalty corner struck by ex-Thurrock player Brian Mansfield, in the second half.

The men’s third team had a difficult day as they were on the wrong end of a 6-0 thrashing by Wapping’s ninth team.
