Thurrock 1-0 Brightlingsea Regent

From Ship Lane

Ryman One North

THURROCK returned to winning ways with a one-goal win over Brightlingsea Regent.

Fleet have had an inconsistent start to the season, having lost both of their away games so far, but that has not been the case at Ship Lane.

They were also boosted by the addition of Harlow midfielder David Cowley, who added a calm and measured presence in the middle of the park.

And Fleet started well in the game, with Ross Wall, Joe Christou, Charlie Stimson and Lewwis Spence all looking lively in the opening exchanges.

Lewis Clark scored the only goal in this match, giving Mark Stimson’s side the points they need to get their season back on track.

After Jordan Clark had hit the crossbar, Cowley chipped the ball to the far post and Lewis Clark made no mistake.

Into the second-half, two yellow cards in 15 minutes for Joe Christou saw Fleet reduced to 10 men with 15 minutes to play.

But despite a late scare when Rhys Madden was called into action between the posts, Fleet held out and took the points.

Manager Mark Stimson said: "We started well and within the first five minutes could have been ahead after Ross Wall had his shot saved by the goal keeper.

"We kept creating chances and just before half time got a goal. In the second half we again had some chances but the goal keeper had a very good game and also we hit the bar but full credit to our players we came away with the points."
