Stansted 0-0 Tilbury
From Woodside Park
FA Cup preliminary round
TILBURY will go again against Stansted after they were held to a goalless draw by the Essex Senior League side on Sunday.
The Dockers started well as Tony Martin looked threatening in forward areas, with a volley over the crossbar the closest either side came in the opening 30 minutes.
Joe Nightingill headed over before the half-time break although they were almost made to pay when goalkeeper Clarke Bogard missed his kick, with some fine defending clearing the ball from danger.
Callum Turner came close for Stansted in the second-half, with Jake Pooley and Martin again posing questions of the home defence.
And it seemed as though it was only a matter of time when George Clarke was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card midway through the half.
Tilbury kept pressing but the breakthrough was not forthcoming with the two teams set to do it all again tomorrow night.
After the game manager Gary Henty said, “I was pleased with the football we played, but just lacked a goal that could have settled us down. Stansted defended well.”
Tilbury: Bogard, Mead, Hanlon, Nightingill, Pooley, Aiken, Martin, Carlile, Richmond, H Cook, K Smith
