Royston Town 1-3 Thurrock

From Garden Walk

FA Cup preliminary round

THURROCK set up an FA Cup tie with Witham Town after a Ross Wall double helped them past Royston Town.

Fleet had played out a 2-2 draw with the side from the Southern League first division on Saturday and fell behind on Tuesday night in the replay.

But strikes from Lewis Clark and Wall’s brace set up the tie at Ship Lane against Witham.

Things were looking as good for the away side after 10 minutes, as Rhys Hoenes broke through and slotted past Connor Wheatley.

But that lead only lasted 12 minutes. A cross into the penalty area saw a marauding Clark volley home from six yards.

All square at the break, Fleet survived several nervy moments at the start of the second period, before taking the lead seven minutes into the half.

A bouncing ball was picked up by Wall and he thrashed past a stranded keeper.

And it was the same man who made the game safe with five minutes to play. Good work down the right saw the ball make its way to Wall, who took a touch and struck left-footed into the corner.
