Aveley 1-4 South Park

From Mill Field

FA Trophy preliminary round

AVELEY threw away a half-time lead as they were comprehensively knocked out of the FA Trophy by South Park.

The Ryman One South side were the better team against their northern counterparts, with four second-half goals putting the Millers to the sword.

Liam Nash had given Aveley the lead as early as the sixth minute, as he forced an effort underneath James Wastell.

Pet Elbi and Ahmed Deen were enjoying good games for Justin Gardner’s men, while Nash went close to doubling his and Aveley’s effort on the half hour mark.

David Fallah shot over before the interval but it was a positive first-half for the hosts.

But that all changed in the second 45 minutes. Kofi Quartey equalised after seven minutes, with his scuffed effort bobbling into the corner and two minutes later it got worse.

Karl Parker netted after some slack defending from Spencer Harrison was exploited.

Millers boss Justin Gardner made a triple substitution as he looked to turn the match back in their favour but South Park went 3-1 ahead on 66 minutes.

Joe Jackson scored it, with Kieran Lavery making it 4-1 just two minutes later with an unmarked header.

Nash shot over but it wasn’t Aveley’s day.
