Tilbury 5-0 Barkingside
From Chadfields
FA Trophy preliminary round
TILBURY thumped Barkingside 5-0 to progress in the FA Trophy and end a positive week on a high, with Harry Cook celebrating a personal landmark with a goal.
The Dockers had drawn with Dereham and crushed Redbridge in the run-up to the game, and Barkingside were no match for Gary Henty’s team.
That said, the first 70 minutes saw no goals, with both sides exchanging opportunities.
Barkingside shot over inside the opening exchanges - Michael Spencer the man off target, while the visitors could perhaps consider themselves fortunate to keep 11 men on the pitch soon after as Luke With swung a loose arm towards Dockers defender Danny Glozier.
Kurt Smith headed wide but goalscoring opportunities were sparse in the first hour or so.
The deadlock wasn’t broken until 73 minutes, with Cook scoring on his 100th appearance, shooting home left footed against their Ryman One North rivals.
Francis Babalola sent a shot wide when it was easier to score, although the attacker was fouled in the penalty area soon after allowing Danny Glozier to make it 2-0 from 12 yards.
Babalola was again the provider soon after, crossing for substitute Tony Martin to get in on the act.
Emiel Aiken made it 4-0 with three minutes remaining, profiting after a superb pass from Jack Carlile, and Carlile played in Martin in added time as Tilbury completed the rout.
Tilbury play Tooting & Mitcham in the next round on Saturday, October 31.
Tilbury: Bogard, Mead, Glozier, Nighingill, Pooley, Game, Aiken, Carlile, Cook (Edmunds), Babalola, Smith (Martin)
