A GRAYS school is celebrating after seven of its brightest sporting stars were selected to compete at the prestigious English Schools Championships.

William Adeyeye (Inter Boys shot putt), Karl Johnson (Inter Boys 400m hurdles), Daniel Knight (Junior Boys 80m hurdles), Theo Adesina (Junior Boys 80m hurdles), Katie Head (Inter Girls hammer), Amber Pullinger (Inter Girls 1500m) and Ini Olajide (Junior Girls long jump), of the William Edwards School will represent Essex as a result of their performances at the Essex Schools Track and Field Championships in Chelmsford last Saturday.

The seven chosen athletes will now travel to the Championships in Gateshead in July, and the school’s teacher of athletics Alexa Joel said it was a proud moment.

“It is an amazing achievement to have so many students from the same school qualify,” she said. “The standard of athletics in Essex is so high and we are so proud of all of them.

“They have worked really hard not only at school but also outside of school with their coaches and thoroughly deserve all their success.”
