GRAYS’ Palmer`s Tennis Academy staged a closed Green Ball Boys tournament last weekend, with a fun-filled day had by all in the sunshine.
There were five entries entered into a round robin format, with each player competing in four short set matches up to four games but having to win by two clear games.
After a fantastic effort from all the boys, the top two players Toby Alomo and Varun Gupta were left to compete in a final short set to decide the Green Ball champion.
The final produced some really sustained and exciting rallies, with the eventual worthy winner being Varun.
Using his consistently quick serve, heavy top spin and extra pace, Varun eventually overcame Toby 4-1, who himself also played some brilliant defensive and counter attacking tennis.
Head coach Nick Antoniades said afterwards that the score did not reflect the closeness of the match.
Alex Brazier won the third-placed play-off.
