A SUPERB debut goal from Luke Hornsley helped Grays Athletic draw 1-1 with Burgess Hill Town in the Ryman Premier League.

The man who joined on a dual registration from Hullbridge Sports hit a fine leveller 10 minutes after half-time to give Grays a much-needed point.

Grays were languishing in the relegation zone and badly needed some points against Burgess Hill.

But there was to be a blow before half-time as Okwute Izuchukwu got the breakthrough for the visitors.

But then came Hornsley’s goal. A ball was played down the right and, following a fluffed clearance, he sprinted through, flicked the ball over the head of a defender and finished with his left foot.

There were chances for both sides to win but they weren’t taken and it ended all square.

Tilbury played a thrilling match with Maldon & Tiptree, coming from two goals down to win 3-2.

Maldon went 2-0 up after starting the match at a blistering pace. Sam Newson scored with eight minutes on the clock and 60 seconds later that lead was doubled.

A spot-kick was given and Liam Nash, formerly of Aveley, struck into the corner.

Adam Mills almost added a third but his header was off target, but Tilbury were growing into the match.

After Kyle Hammond had struck the Dockers crossbar, Tony Martin halved arrears as he followed up his own strike to score on 30 minutes.

And two minutes before half-time the scores were level, when a bouncing ball was nodded home by Toby Aromolaran.

Emiel Aiken hit the winner nine minutes from time to send the home fans into raptures.

Aveley hit a late leveller to earn a 2-2 draw with Witham Town in the Ryman North.

Aveley started well and George Woodward struck just wide of the post inside the first 60 seconds, although Witham were still a threat, and goalkeeper Lamar Johnson had to be alert to deny a swift counter-attack.

Abs Seymour hit the post with 20 minutes on the clock, with the rebound of Michael Pindy rolling just wide but Seymour didn’t have long to wait before the opening goal.

Pindy linked up well with the striker, crossing for him as he controlled and turned before shooting into the corner.

But Witham turned it on in the second-half and levelled just after the hour mark. Scott Kemp had the easiest of tasks from close range to level the match, tapping in at the far post.

Tim Monsheju put Witham in front 15 minutes from time, despite loud calls from Aveley there had been a foul in the build-up.

But that galvanized Aveley and they pushed on in search for that equaliser.

Dan McCullock banged home the goal to drag Aveley level and, although they came close to a winner, it ended all square.

Thurrock edged out 10-man Ware to take the points and continue their climb up the table.

Ross Wall hit a 90th minute winner to send the home fans into raptures, after it looked as though they had blown their chance.

Fleet were given a helping hand by the dismissal of Josh Oyibo after just 15 minutes, and Fleet pushed on.

The opener came on 30 minutes when Glenn Poole scored from the penalty spot.

But they were pegged back by Gareth Price with 20 minutes remaining before Wall struck the winner.
